13/10/02 North Star Vs Aston green Clayfield Cops
Result North Star 2 - 3 Aston Green Aston Green started the better side in the first half and nearly scored in the first 5 minutes when Chris Walsh cut into the box from the right and saw his shot go just wide. Dion Day picked up the ball on the left hand side and ran down the flank and managed to chip the ball into the area and the oncoming Damien Foote opened up his account with a looping header which the keeper failed to reach. A burst of confidence ran through the side and they nearly made it 2-0 when James Sadler's shot from the edge of the area cannoned of the cross bar leaving the keeper helpless. North Star's troublesome forward Daniel Lucus soon made it 1-1 when he outpaced the Green defence to slot home. North Star began to take control of the half and could have increased their lead with Lucus going close of several occasions but the in-form Mark Slade managed to keep Green in it with a string of fine saves. Half time saw the score line stay at 1-1 and Green needing to settle if they want anything from this game. Ian Clements replaced Anthony Pocock at half time and Damien Foote moved to center Midfield with Ian partnering Dion Day up front. Green started well and produced some good football at times with short passing and keeping possession. Damien Foote nearly restored Greens lead when his 30yrd shot just drifted wide. A deflection off Ian Clements put Dion Day through on goal and Dion calmly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper to make it 2-1 Green. Greens defence started to get to grips with Lucas's pace and he was cut out on several occasions by Scott Richardson and Robert Pocock. Green then went 3-1 up when Chris Walsh sprinted down the right and skinned the Steve Hill to produce a pinpoint cross and Justin Fox's bullet header left North Star frozen. The last 15 minutes was mostly all North Star as they pushed forward in search of goals. Danny Lucus soon made it 3-2 when he sprinted through to slot the ball past the advancing Mark Slade. A fine save from Mark Slade and a last minute tackle from Kris Foote kept North Star at bay and Green secured all 3 points. Subs Used:
