27/10/02 Lake Autos Vs Aston Green Christchurch Meadow
Result Lake Autos 1 - 2 Aston Green Despite horrendous wind, play was un-interrupted and this game proved to be a game where both sides could have easily taken the points. The first ten minutes saw Green on the back foot and Lake looked like scoring but on both occasions Aston keeper Mark Slade did enough to deny them that vital first goal. Scott McAulay nearly opened his goal account for Green when he saw his halfway line shot just tipped over by the lake keeper. Anthony Pocock also nearly scored when he was set free for a unchallenged shot, which the Lake keeper comfortably saved with the help of wind. Aston Green battled on despite some dodgy decisions made by the home referee and the battling paid off when Anthony Pocock found Dion Day in space, leaving Dion to toe pock home from 6yds. Green started to link up well and at times produced some good football to feet which could have made more chances had the conditions been better. Damien Foote sustained a shoulder injury just before the break when a Lake player challenged from late from behind, the ref waved play on and Lake sportingly put the ball out for a throw in. The start of the second half saw the team lineup unchanged and Green restarted as they finished the first in full battle mode. After failing to shrug off the shoulder injury Ian Clements came on to replace Damien Foote, Dion stepped back into Midfield and Ian partnered Anthony upfront. Green became to link up well and managed to carve a few half chances which failed to trouble Lake. It was the ever creative Anthony Pocock who again played a nice through ball to the feet of Kris Foote who slotted home his first goal for Green and in League football. Substitute Goalkeeper Andy Marshall made this first league appearance coming on as right winger in place of James Sadler. Green started to lose shape in the last 20 minutes with everyone trying to get in on goal but the Solid partnership of Chris Walsh and Scott McAulay more often than not cleared the green area. Green were on course for their first clean sheet of the season but a badly timed tackle from Scott McAulay resulted in Lake being awarded a penalty from which they pulled one back to make the score 2-1. An injury to Goalkeeper Mark Slade forced Green to play the last 10 minutes with 10 men with Andy Marshall returning to his usual position as goalkeeper. Green managed to hold on, when lake went close twice one went agonizingly wide and Marshall pulled of a fine save to deny Lake the draw. Subs Used:
